But, before all that, one common issue can be knowing how to measure your window for curtains. Measuring this correctly will firstly depend on whether or not you already have a pole or rail up from which your curtains will hang.
Things are a little easier if you do have a pole or rail. Just measure the width of the pole, not including the ends, then measure the drop from just under the pole to where you want the curtains to fall.
If you don’t have a pole or rail, it’s best to begin by measuring the width of your window and then from top to bottom. Next, you should add a little extra length to allow for when a pole/rail is eventually installed. A good amount to add is six inches above the window and six to ten inches on either side. Having this extra space will leave a nice distance between the window and curtain when opened, which allows better light to enter your room.
It’s also important to remember the ideal tool to use is a metal measuring tape. To get more accurate measurements, you’ll want your tape to hold firm and still while you work out the exact lengths and distances.
